Braxton Hicks Contractions

Obviously, I'm on baby #3 so I should know a LOT about being pregnant and I do pride myself on knowing quite a bit, but I know nothing ab Braxton Hicks Ctx. I think i've been having them frequently. It's at random times, but I do notice it happens more when i'm stressed or been up walking a lot. It's like a tightening all the way down my stomach to my lady bits that takes my breath away. I went into labor on my own with CRC so I remember what it feels like. It was much more intense than this, but it's still uncomfortable. Baby girl still moves a lot before and after I get that feeling, so i'm not terribly worried. It's just not fun.

Everyone has said "drink more water" and that's all fine and good, but really does water make it stop?? I hate water with this pregnancy. Normally, I drink about 8 glasses/day, but since becoming pregnant it's only around 1 glass/day. I feel terrible, but I try to make up for it by drinking decaf tea, sprite and juice. Blah..seems like everything is making me sick through this pregnancy.

I think i'm going to google contractions and the differences, just so I can be prepared. It doesn't last for long and it's not in any kind of pattern so I know that's a good thing. It's just uncomfortable!! :)

  1. Sounds like you really do need more water :) Dehydration can cause BH's and juice/tea etc won't cut it. If you can't drink plain water throw in a few drops of lemon juice, but you really really really need the water!!

  2. Kaycee. I am right there with you. I have gotten them more and earlier with each pregnancy. I also get them more often when I am active. They are uncomfortable. I have had 2 "summer" babies (in Arizona) and water help out, but like you it just is not doin' it this time around. All I want to drink is soda!

  3. OK - definitely drink more water! It DOES help. I don't know everything behind it and I am sure someone else will fill in the details but you need to keep up on your water consumption!

  7. Hey Kaycee,
Im 35 weeks as of yesterday. I have been having a ton of them this pregnancy and had hardly any last pregnancy. I asked my midwife about it because I will have them every 5 minutes for hours at a time. She said it's fine as long as they aren't painful. I have read the dehydration thing, but also I have read just do something the opposite of what you are doing. If you are on your feet all day and get them, try to sit or lay down for a while. I usually get them on my 12 hour shifts! Ugh. I made my blog private recently. Carrah and Morgan are from oct 08 BBC. If you want to read my blog email me and Ill invite you!

  8. I had uncomfortable BH with my last pregnancy for most of it. It was so bad I stayed home as much as possible. Sometimes dehydration is the reason you are having BH but sometimes it is just your body. And decaf tea is the same as water. As long as it is not more than 5 in an hour it is ok. Just watch it and as long as its not painful or in a pattern you are ok.

  9. Well, I am going to chime in with everyone else on the water thing! Dehydration causes contractions- braxton hicks and the real thing and can put you into preterm labor...Maybe you could try those Crystal light add ins- I have seen them at Target and Walmart...and you mix them with your water. Then it tastes better and you are still getting the water!

Also, my doc told me with my 3rd, that I would probably have stronger BH contractions, because the more and more babies you have, the stronger and more frequent they become.

    Good luck!
